1. Scope and acceptance

These Terms of Service govern your use of Rescues, the site published at https://rescues.app. They form an agreement between you and the operator of Rescues, reachable at contact@rescues.app.

By creating an account you confirm that you have read and accepted these Terms and the Privacy Policy in the versions published at that moment. The versions you accepted are recorded against your account.

Browsing the public pages does not require an account, but it is also covered by these Terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the service.

2. What Rescues is

Rescues is a free, non-commercial tool for people who care for rescued animals. It lets you keep a private record of every animal you look after, plan and complete care events, receive reminders, and — should you choose to — publish a profile so the animal can find a home.

  • Everything you enter is private by default. A profile becomes publicly visible only after you request publication and a moderator approves it.
  • The service does not sell animals, take payments, collect donations, or act as a shelter, a rescue organisation, or a veterinary practice.
  • We are not a party to any adoption, hand-over, or other arrangement you reach with another person through the service.
  • Reminders and calendar entries are a convenience, not a treatment schedule. A reminder that arrives late, or not at all, does not move responsibility for an animal's care away from you.

3. Who may use the service

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. By registering you confirm that you are.

  • You may hold one account. Do not register on someone else's behalf without their knowledge.
  • What you enter at registration, and what you record about the animals in your care, must be accurate and kept up to date.
  • You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for everything done through your account. Tell us at contact@rescues.app if you think someone else has gained access to it.

4. Your account

You can register with an email address and a password, or sign in with Google. Registering with an email address requires you to confirm that address before you can sign in; the confirmation link goes to the address you entered.

  • We may disable an account that breaches these Terms, that is used to harm animals or people, or that we are required by law to disable. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why.
  • You can request deletion of your account at any time from Settings. The Privacy Policy describes what deletion covers and how long it takes.

5. Content you add

You keep every right you already hold in the text and photographs you upload. We claim no ownership of them.

  • By uploading content you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, reproduce, resize, and display it for the sole purpose of operating the service — including generating thumbnails and strongly blurred safety previews, checking the content through OpenAI's moderation service, and, where you have asked for publication, showing approved content on public pages and in link previews.
  • That licence lasts as long as the content is on the service and ends when the content is deleted, apart from copies inside backups, which expire on the schedule set out in the Privacy Policy.
  • You confirm that the content is yours or that you have permission to upload it, that it infringes nobody's rights, and that any identifiable person appearing in a photograph has agreed to its publication.
  • Do not upload photographs of animals you do not care for, images taken from other listings or from social media, or anything that carries another person's personal data.

6. Breed thumbnail credits

The breed-selection thumbnails are cropped and resized from freely licensed Wikimedia Commons images. Where a reliable image of a rare breed was unavailable, we use a visually related representative image.

7. Public profiles

Publication is optional and never automatic. When you request it, a moderator reviews the profile and its photographs before anything becomes visible.

  • An approved profile shows the animal's name, species, sex, approximate age, colour, breed, city, description, health status, and approved photographs, together with your display name and avatar and a link to your public caregiver page.
  • Your email address, telephone number, and home address are never published.
  • Public profiles can be opened by anyone with the link, indexed by search engines, and shown as previews on social networks and in chat apps.
  • A moderator may refuse publication, ask for changes, or withdraw a profile that is already live — for instance where it is inaccurate, misleading, offensive, or duplicated. You can ask for the reason at contact@rescues.app.
  • You can make a profile private again at any time. Copies already cached elsewhere are outside our control and may take a while to disappear.

8. What you may not do

When using the service you must not:

  • offer an animal for sale, breed animals for profit through the service, or use it for any commercial listing;
  • publish false, misleading, or deliberately incomplete information about an animal's health, age, or history;
  • upload content that is unlawful, abusive, hateful, sexually explicit, or obscene, or that depicts injury, blood, cruelty, animal abuse, animal suffering, or graphic material;
  • harass other users or contact them for purposes unconnected with the animals published here;
  • impersonate another person or organisation;
  • try to reach accounts, data, or parts of the system you are not entitled to, get around the captcha or any request limit, scrape the site in bulk, or upload harmful files;
  • use the service in a way that damages it, interrupts it for others, or breaks Bulgarian or European Union law.

9. Moderation

To protect the public directory and our moderators, Rescues automatically checks the text submitted for a public listing and every uploaded photograph through OpenAI's moderation service before public approval. The check looks for potentially harmful content, including sexual content, violence, graphic violence, injury, blood, cruelty, and animal abuse.

Content that is flagged, or cannot be safely checked, is held from public display and cannot be approved. For a flagged photograph, moderators see only a server-generated strongly blurred preview and the safety categories; they cannot reveal or retrieve the original through the moderation interface.

No profile, photograph, or listing is published automatically. Moderators may reject or withdraw content and record a reason. The automated safety check does not suspend your account or decide anything else about you.

If you think a moderation outcome is wrong, write to contact@rescues.app and we will explain or review it. A review does not require us to publish content that breaches these Terms. Use the same address to report a listing that breaches these Terms.

10. Availability and changes to the service

Rescues is provided free of charge and as it stands. We work to keep it available and to keep your data safe, but we cannot promise uninterrupted service, and we may add, change, or remove features.

If we ever decide to shut the service down, we will announce it on the site and leave you a reasonable period — at least 30 days — to export your data before anything is deleted.

11. Not veterinary advice

Nothing in Rescues is veterinary, medical, or legal advice. The care event types, intervals, and health fields are organisational aids, not a treatment plan. Always follow the advice of a licensed veterinarian for the animals in your care.

12. Adoption and hand-over

Any arrangement about an animal is made directly between you and the other person. We do not verify anyone's identity, home conditions, or intentions, and we are not responsible for what happens once an animal changes hands.

  • Satisfy yourself about the other person before handing over an animal, and meet in a public place if you are meeting a stranger.
  • Bulgarian animal protection law continues to apply to you regardless of anything in these Terms.

13. Liability

To the fullest extent Bulgarian law permits, and given that the service is provided free of charge, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for loss of data caused by circumstances beyond our control, for the conduct of other users, or for the outcome of an adoption.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for intent or gross negligence, nor does anything here affect your statutory rights as a consumer.

14. Ending the agreement

You can stop using the service at any time and can request deletion of your account from Settings.

  • Deleting your account removes your animals' records and their photographs, public profiles included.
  • We may suspend or close an account that breaches these Terms. Where the breach is minor, we will normally ask you to put it right first.
  • The provisions on licences already granted, on liability, and on applicable law survive the end of the agreement.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may amend these Terms. Every version carries the version identifier shown at the top of this page, and the version you accepted is recorded against your account.

  • We announce material changes on the site and, where we hold a confirmed address for you, by email, at least 14 days before they take effect.
  • Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means you accept the new version. If you do not accept it, delete your account before that date.

16. Applicable law and disputes

These Terms are governed by Bulgarian law. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country you live in.

  • We would much rather settle any problem directly, so please write to contact@rescues.app first.
  • As a consumer you may also take a dispute to the Commission for Consumer Protection (kzp.bg) or to an alternative dispute resolution body, and you may use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform.
  • Complaints about personal data go to the Commission for Personal Data Protection — see the Privacy Policy.
  • Any dispute not settled otherwise falls to the competent Bulgarian court.

These Terms are published in Bulgarian and in English. Where the two differ, the Bulgarian text prevails.

17. Contact
